Vincent Van Gogh

In 2012, art historians realized that a painting with an unknown author was indeed an original work by Vincent Van Gogh. The painting titled, “Still Life with Meadow Roses and Flowers” was in the collection of Holland’s Kroeller-Mueller Museum for over thirty years before the discovery was made. The painting had been considered in 2003 for catalog entry but scholars had too many doubts regarding the authenticity.

A new round of X-ray images clearly revealed an underpainting of two wrestlers that could more easily be attributed to Van Gogh. A more in depth study of the still life and the study of the wrestlers confirmed once and for all that the painting was an authentic work by Vincent Van Gogh.
